Museum de Zwarte Tulp, the museum on flower bulb culture, takes you into the richly varied story of flower bulb culture: the ancient history, working on the land with its seasonal rhythm, scientific research, export and tourist promotion. The museum also shows how artists have been inspired - through the ages - by bulbs plants into works of special beauty.
The museum has existed since 1985 and is housed in a building in the center of Lisse that once served as a bulb shed. Parts of the museum are the early 20th-century boardrooms of Kalkzandsteenfabriek Van Herwaarden BV, called the Comparitie, and the museum with a variety of bulb plants. There is also a museum shop and a coffee corner where you can have coffee, tea or soft drinks.
